The player of the year goes to Serena Williams!

This is not the first time that the tennis player has been voted the Player of the Year. The WTA Tour Player of the Year goes to Serena Williams. This comes for her accomplishment, as she was ranked No. 1 last year. She received this award in the year 2002.

The Most Improved Player Award goes to Dinara Safina and the Comeback Player of the Year went to Zheng Jie of China. The doubles team award was shared by Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Liezel Huber

Serena Williams

of the United States, again for the second time. The New Comer of the Year was credited to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

Ana Ivanovic was honored with the humanitarian of the year award for her contributions to the UNICEF. The Karen Krantzcke sportsmanship award went to Elena Dementieva.

All winners were present for the awards ceremony that was held at the Sony Ericsson Open, except Serena. But later in her statement she said, “Winning the Player of the Year award for the second time in my career is a great personal achievement. I feel great about my game and hope to win many more players of the year titles in the years to come.”
