Srikrishna for amendment of Advocates Act
Mar 06, 2009
B N Srikrishna has accused the lawyers in his report he submitted to the Supreme Court today.

Srikrishna recommended the Supreme Court to, “take this opportunity to exercise its extraordinary constitutional powers and lay down sufficient guidelines for the behaviour of the lawyers within and without the court premises as the bar councils have not been acting as an effective regulatory body of their professional conduct.”

Srikrishna suggested to the apex court that an amendment of the Advocates Act is needed and better disciplinary mechanism should be in force for the lawyers and until then certain guidelines should be provided by the Supreme Court to be practiced by all lawyers in all courts.

The February 19 clash between the police and the lawyers in the Madras High Court left many lawyers and a judge injured.
