Dow experiences new 12 year low

The stumble in the Wall Street was seen as a reaction after the US government disclosed new support plans of 30 billion dollars for AIG insurance company. This is the fourth plan for the company and the market reacted negatively to this. The Dow Jones closed at 6,763.29 slipping 299.64 points, the lowest since 1997.

Experts feel that the government’s effort to save the insurance giant is putting tax payers’ money at risk.

Following this, HSBC the British banking giant is also looking for massive capital of 18 billion dollars to survive the current crisis. HSBC as a cost cutting measure has slammed 6,100 jobs after the net profit plummeted around 70 percent.
