tape, the Election Commission has stated
that it is up to Varun Gandhi to prove that
the tape was doctored.
He filed a petition seeking to cancel the
FIR filed on March 17th in Pilibhit under
Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between
different groups on ground of religion)
and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated
by a public servant) of Indian Penal Code
and Section 125 of the Representation of
the People Act. He also filed an anticipatory
bail at the Delhi High Court. His advocate
stated that the conditions for anticipatory
bail were not favorable in Uttar Pradesh.
Varun also stated that the FIR was lodged
after nine days of his speeches and said
it was “a part of a political conspiracy
to tarnish his secular image.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer Anuj
Kumar Bishnoi declared that “The Commission
today got some inputs regarding alleged
distribution of money by the BJP candidate
and it has sought a report from the district
magistrate in this regard.” The sub-divisional
magistrate M A Akhtar stated that the district
administration conducted an inquiry and
has discovered that Varun distributed money
in Bisalpur village on March 4.
With allegations piling-up one after the
other, looks like the member of the Gandhi
family is in for more trouble.
