Varun challenges FIR, seeks anticipatory bail
Mar 20, 2009

Varun Gandhi moved to the court seeking to nullify charges against him and to prevent him from a possible arrest.

His rabble-rousing anti-Muslim speech had raked hate reviews, and he is asking for more trouble for supposedly disbursing money in Pilibhit.

Even as Varun is constantly stating that the tape has been tampered with and it was not his voice on the

tape, the Election Commission has stated that it is up to Varun Gandhi to prove that the tape was doctored.

He filed a petition seeking to cancel the FIR filed on March 17th in Pilibhit under Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of Indian Penal Code and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act. He also filed an anticipatory bail at the Delhi High Court. His advocate stated that the conditions for anticipatory bail were not favorable in Uttar Pradesh.

Varun also stated that the FIR was lodged after nine days of his speeches and said it was “a part of a political conspiracy to tarnish his secular image.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer Anuj Kumar Bishnoi declared that “The Commission today got some inputs regarding alleged distribution of money by the BJP candidate and it has sought a report from the district magistrate in this regard.” The sub-divisional magistrate M A Akhtar stated that the district administration conducted an inquiry and has discovered that Varun distributed money in Bisalpur village on March 4.

With allegations piling-up one after the other, looks like the member of the Gandhi family is in for more trouble.
