Back to where it belongs!
Mar 06, 2009

At last Gandhi’s memorabilia has come home! Not because of the effort taken by the Indian government but by the industrialist Vijay Mallya. He stated in a media interview in France that it was his own decision to buy the items and nobody from the government contacted him.

In his words, “I bid independently... I wanted to get back the items to the country... I am not sure if anyone was aware that I was bidding. Nobody from the

Vijay Mallya
government advised me on the bid... Our national treasure was up for grabs, for me it was emotional.”

The Chairman of United Breweries Group bought Mahatma Gandhi’s personal possessions for a whopping $1.8 million.
