Former fast bowler Waqar Younis has
been signed in as the new coach of
the Pakistan side. Younis will be
replacing Intikhab Alam, a former
test spinner, who has been appointed
the director cricket academies.
Newly appointed Younis becomes the
fourth coach of the national team
in three years.
The pacer as the coach of the team
will be paid a massive package of
650,000 rupees (7,650 dollars) per
month.
PCB chairman Ijaz Butt said Younis
has been given a contract till December
2011.
Butt revealed former fast bowler Wasim
Akram’s name as he was under
consideration.
"We had a choice between Younis
and Wasim Akram, but since Akram was
busy with his commitments in media,
we decided to appoint Younis as the
new coach," Butt said.
He also added, "Foreign coaches
were demanding big money and were
willing to work with our team only
when it’s touring some other
countries. This was not acceptable
to us," Butt said. Alam will
groom youngsters in cricket academies
at Lahore and Karachi.
"Soon, we will have two more
academies in Multan and Islamabad
and Alam's services will be utilized
in all these four academies,"
he added.
