Black flag demonstrators held

Around 200 persons were taken into custody for staging a black flag protest against the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi during her visit to Chennai on Sunday. Among them were prominent film director Bharathiraja, Tamil Nationalist Movement leader Pazha Nedumaran, director R Sundarrajan, Katradhu Tamizh Ram and Advocate Karuppan. The arrested protestors were detained at the KP Marriage Hall near Kattipara Junction. They were offered evening meals which they refused to have and staged a hunger strike

inside the marriage hall.

There were 21 women protestors who were also arrested as they raised slogans against Sonia Gandhi blaming her for the genocide in Sri Lanka.

The police have filed a case under seven sections, stated sources in Bharathiraja’s camp.

The arrested were remanded to judicial custody.
