Sonia, Karuna silent on the issue of formation of separate Eelam

The Congress President Sonia Gandhi made it to the Island Grounds this time, sharing the dais with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan among others. Calling DMK a trusted ally, she tactfully evaded the creation of separate Eelam and sending the Indian Army to Sri Lanka to create a separate statehood for the Tamils.

She expressed her “pain and anguish” for the suffering Tamils in the Island nation as they are being victims of the war between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan army.

Mrs. Gandhi also emphasized that a political solution should be sought for the ethnic crisis through the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord of 1987.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will go to polls on the 13th May and the election campaign will come to an end this evening.
