100 children killed in Sri Lanka claims UN

Over 100 children were killed during the weekend war in Sri Lanka, claimed the United Nations which condemned the massacre calling it a “bloodbath” in Sri Lanka. The army and the rebels are busy shifting the blame from one to another. The rebels claim that the military is still in the offense and the military asserts that the LTTE is firing mortars.

Gordon Weiss, the UN spokesman in Colombo stated, “The large scale killing of civilians, including the death of over 100 children, over the weekend shows that the bloodbath scenario has become a reality.”

Though the government claim that 250 civilians had died in the attack, the Tamilnet website puts the toll at 3,200. The data offered by both sides have no authenticity unless journalists and international community are given access to the Island Nation, it is believed.
