Arguably
the world’s busiest man Barack
Obama took time out from attending
the Fifth Summit of the Americas to
meet the West Indian cricketing legend
Brian Lara at Trinidad Islands. More
than Lara, Obama was very eager to
meet the master batsman.
The incident took place at the newly
re-named Obama Terrace, Hilton Trinidad,
St Ann’s a couple of weeks ago.
The ultimate purpose of this meet
is to enhance the plans for an American
Premier League of Cricket with some
cricketers having already signed up.
It will be held twice a year and will
have six teams to begin with.
While his sport of choice is basketball,
Obama was given a brief batting lesson
by Lara. The attempt to teach the
drive was found less successful when
compared to a forward defensive short.
During the meet Obama greeted Lara
saying “always wanted to meet
the Michael Jordan of cricket”.
Lara repaid the compliment by presenting
the president with a signed bat.
