BMW keen on developing cars that sense danger
May 23 2009 10:08 PM

BMW’s current focus is a car to car communication system that offers more pedestrian protection by sensing situations. The communication system helps the driver to adjust to the traffic conditions in advance. It gives all related information regarding the vehicles in close purview.

This project is said to be the part of the AMULETT and is aiming to prevent accidents by using sensoring and tracking technology.

This can be achieved by networking the car with another one or with the transponders carried with the driver. The transponders can be installed in a school bag, mobile phones, walking stick etc.

The system determines the impending collision and warns the driver on the head up display, and if the driver fails to respond then the system automatically triggers the breaking procedure.

On successful completion of this project, road accidents can be reduced drastically.
