Karuna Amman allies Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan the former military commander of LTTE and presently National Integration and Reconciliation Minister said that the LTTE’s downfall began with Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.

He said, “I told Prabhakaran that he had made a big mistake” and Prabhakaran refused it.

Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman had designed Rajiv Gandhi's assassination for India’s military intervention in SriLanka in the Late 80’s.

Following the incident 20 Countries banned LTTE as a Terrorist group which was considered as the major setback for the Tigers.

Karuna said that he has won 60% of his battles of his 22 years with the LTTE.

Karuna remembered his early days with the LTTE leader, he walked down the memory lane stating, "After my training, I was first appointed as a personal bodyguard for Prabhakaran. I was very close to him; we were both very friendly with each other. In those days, he was a good leader. Discipline was very high. When we were in the LTTE, we can't smoke, we can't drink, no girls. And he was like that also. But little by little he changed.”

And also that he has never seen Prabhakaran in the battle field as he always stayed behind the lines. He said that he cannot accept Prabhakaran as an iron man or a born leader because he was never like that.
