Deccan
Chargers' batsman Rohit Sharma has
been named as the best Under-23 player
of the second Indian Premier League.
The adjudicators of the award are
Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and MAK
Pataudi. Rohit was unanimously selected
for the award and will receive a cash
prize of Rupees 10 Lakhs.
The charger has scored 333 runs with
an average of 22.75 and strike rate
of 119, apart from this Rohit has
also shined with the ball taking 11
wickets with an average of 11.45 which
also includes a hat-trick.
"It is a great honor to be named
the Under-23 Player of the League.
I've been pleased with my form in
South Africa, it has been a fantastic
competition and I have really enjoyed
it and to be recognized for my achievements
by three of the living legends of
Indian cricket is a great thrill for
me,” said an elated Rohit said.
Impressed with Rohit's performance,
IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit
Modi said, "Rohit's performances
have helped light up the IPL. He is
without doubt one of the best young
cricketers in the world, and has a
very exciting future with both Deccan
Chargers and India. I congratulate
him on becoming the Under-23 Success
of the League."
Another contender was close to achieve
this award was Suresh Riana 434 runs
at an average of 31, he has also picked
7 wickets at an average of 23.71 and
a very good economy rate of 5.92.
