The consumer helpline is all set to be inaugurated next week. The Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection Department will make available to the public a call centre at Ezhilagam in Chepauk. The public can avail this facility to get information about various products and services in public as well as private sector. Even complaints can be lodged against paucity of services.

This helpline was due to be opened in the month of August but do to technical and administrative reasons there was a delay. The trial run is on and the set up will function full fledged from next week onwards.

There will be one toll-free number connected to five telephones and the information will be provided by the call center executive pertaining to products and services.

The call center was made with a budget of Rs. 60 lakhs and will be open between 10 am to 6 pm from Monday through Saturday.

Another added facility is that apart from getting information on the phone, an SMS will be sent to the customer’s mobile giving their reference id.
