TN govt introduces Seed Village Programme

The Tamil Nadu Government with the assistance of the Central Government introduces Seed Village Programme to raise crops on ‘seed farm standard’ in order to encourage the farmers to increase their yield.

S Durai, Namakkal District Joint Director of Agriculture told the reporters that the Seed Village programme involves ,the seed produced by one farmer could be used to raise crops in the next season.

The seeds will be checked periodically by the agricultural department officials to the monitor the standard and it will be supplied with 50% subsidy to the farmers.

As an initiative measure, 50 farmers were given first stage seed production training at Pallipallayam. The farmers were taught of the different technologies like selection of certified seed, seed treatment, rouging space and basal dressing of fertilizers and its implementation in the farm, he added.
