Election Commission to implement new software to eradicate duplication

October 14, 2009 08:39 PM

Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta and Karanataka’s chief electoral officer C. S. Suranjana had a meeting yesterday at Krishnagiri. They have reviewed the State Enhanced Electoral Roll System (STEERS) and multi-lingual electoral rolls.

During the meeting District Election Officers, Returning Officers and the Assistant Returning Officers explained their problems in updating the data base of the inclusion of names and their elimination from the voters’ list on STEERS.

Since people residing in border areas migrate to other part in search of employment, there is a possibility of duplication in voting process, where a man can have votes in two areas.

And this software will easily identify and eradicate this duplication. The software is built in such way that it would find out the duplication of the voters at two places with same spelling with different date of births and other details.

And if the duplication is found, officials can eliminate the duplication by way of manual checking from the searched list generated by the STEERS software.
