TN government focuses on schools for environmental awareness

Tamil Nadu School Education Minister, Thangam Thennarasu has said that schools across the state will put some extra and systematic efforts on environmental awareness.

The minister said the government has also planned a series of initiatives like regular programmes on environmental awareness, consciously cut down on use of plastics; take up tree-planting initiatives. The minister also said that these programmes will be first implemented in high schools and will then be extended to primary, middle and higher secondary schools.

He also insisted the importance of eco clubs in schools. “We do have eco clubs in schools now. Some are functioning under Central government initiatives and some under State government schemes. However, we think it is important to make the efforts uniform and consistent,” he said.
