A
stay was granted against the circular
which stated that the Drugs Controller
General (India) has decided to put
in action the World Health Organisation
certification scheme by the Central
Drugs Standard Control Organisation
(CDSCO) from October 1. This stay
was issued by the Madras High Court.
The circular also read that the Certificate
of Pharmaceutical Products (COPP)
would be given by CDSCO officers after
examining the manufacturing units
by the regulatory officials.
The Drug Controller General (India)
issued the circular on September 1,
2009. According to the petitioner
the circular is a violation of law
and WHO guidelines.
Justice K Suguna issued the interim
order on the petition by the Tamil
Nadu Drugs Control Officers Association
which was represented by its secretary
M Dhilip Kumar. The association also
requested the court to consult records
and nullify the same.
