Retired
Test cricketer Adam Gilchrist will
be playing for the University of Wollongong.
The master batsman will tour India
as an ambassador for the University
of Wollongong and its Innovation Campus.
Gilchrist visited India last September
to promote opportunities for Indian
information and communications technology
(ICT) companies.
Meetings are being conducted in India
this month jointly by Gilchrist and
the University’s Vice-Principal
(Administration) Chris Grange. They
will meet top industry leaders in
Chennai on 24 October, Pune on 26
October, Mumbai on 27 October and
Delhi on 28 October.
IT Innovation centre in Australia
at the Innovation Campus will be established
jointly by Gilchrist, UOW and Chief
executive officer of India’s
International ICT companies.
Speaking on this UOW’s Director
of Corporate Relations, Craig Peden
said, “On the back of the first
visit, we have reached agreement with
one Indian company and are in advanced
discussions with a number of other
ICT organisations who see distinct
advantages in establishing future
Australian operations at the Innovation
Campus. They know that if they are
to succeed in Australia, they need
local knowledge and expertise. “They
are looking to Wollongong because
the University can offer a steady
source of well-trained graduates,
research and development partnerships
and a modern campus environment.”
Peden was all praise for Gilchrist
who added, “Adam’s first
year as our ambassador has been a
great success, so we are delighted
that he has agreed to continue in
the role.”
Gilchrist said that the visit was
very impressive and he was happy to
see the interest shown by the Indian
Corporate leaders in opportunities
at the Innovation Campus.
Gilchrist said, “The Innovation
Campus reminds me so much of the new
technology-based developments I have
seen in cities like Bangalore and
Hyderabad, so I was able to assure
Indian companies looking for an Australian
base that they would feel right at
home there.”
