Cheerleaders in Sari for ODI

October 27, 2009 04:33 PM

An innovative idea to bring in cheerleaders to perform wearing Saris will be witnessed in the day-and-night one-day match between India and Sri Lanka on December 21 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Ashirbad Behera said that they have selected hand-woven textile called the Sambalpuri Saris for the cheerleaders. They will perform for every boundary and wicket fall.

He added, “At least 15 Oriya girls between 18 and 20 would be selected for the purpose. They will be placed in three different parts of the stadium.”

Behera also emphasized that they will wear saris as they are part of our culture and tradition as against the short skirts worn normally during such occasions.

These cheerleaders will perform for super hit Oriya films and albums running in the background.
