After receiving ten threat letters since August 28 Jaya TV owned by AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa received a telephone call on Wednesday and the caller threatened that Ms. Jayalalithaa would be killed and Jaya TV office will be blown up by a suicide squad.

K.P. Sunil, Jaya TV vice-president (news) said that the call was received by editorial staff on Wednesday at 4.45 am. The caller identified himself as ‘Colonel’, and sounded like a Sri Lankan Tamil he said. The caller suspected to be a supporter of the banned terror outfit LTTE warned that Ms Jayalalithaa would be killed if she visited Madurai on October 18 said K P Sunil in a complaint to the state DGP and Chennai City Police Commissioner.

The caller warned Jaya TV against carrying reports or stories against the LTTE. The caller telephoned five minutes later and allegedly abused the channel and Ms Jayalalithaa and threatened to bomb the offices of Jaya TV.

The caller for the third time called up at 5 am and warned a suicide squad is ready to destroy Jaya TV office because it is opposed to the LTTE and further said, “The staff are only paid employees and are free to leave the office as suicide bombers will destroy the building any moment,” and same fate awaited ‘Amma’ she went ahead with her party’s Madurai meeting.

A request for the police security at the channel’s office at Ekkaduthangal has been made by Mr. Sunil. The state government has already ordered a CBI probe into threat letters against Ms. Jayalalithaa.
