B. S. Yeddyurappa, Karnataka Chief Minister has won the trust motion in the State assembly on Thursday with 106 votes. The Opposition got 100 votes with one JDS MLA abstaining from voting.

The opposition Congress’ plea for postponement of the motion of confidence session was earlier rejected by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and it went ahead with voting on it.

Speaker K. G. Bopaiah declared, “This session has been specifically convened on the direction of the Governor to conduct the trust vote and it cannot be postponed," following Congress leader Siddaramaiah’s demand to postpone the motion till the High Court pronounced its verdict on a batch of petitions filed by 16 MLAs challenging their disqualification.

All the BJP members supported the motion by voice vote when the Speaker put the motion to vote while Siddaramaiah demanded a division of votes, which was accepted.

This is Karnataka's second trust vote within a short span of four days amidst high security even as the Congress said all its MLAs will take part in the floor test. The validity of the floor test will depend on the Karnataka High Court’s judgement on the disqualification petitions of the rebel MLAs which will be delivered on October 18.
