M. Karunanidhi has commenced its series of strategic poll preparation
meetings on Wednesday and spent more than three hours with party
men from Ramanathapuram district, hearing to their complaints and
local political issues to set the house in order ahead of the crucial
elections.
Karunanidhi called for greater unity among party men and said, “Winning
the ensuing Assembly polls will be very important for the party”
he said. With Congress preparing for hard bargaining on the one
hand and the AIADMK launching the campaign by organizing mammoth
rallies, on the other, the DMK had started its groundwork on Wednesday.
Mr. Karunanidhi, general secretary K. Anbazhagan, treasurer M.K.
Stalin and south zone organizing secretary M.K. Alagiri listened
to the views of party men on the reach of freebies and welfare schemes,
feuds between party functionaries and strategy for the polls as
part of the month-long meeting with district and town-level party
functionaries, MPs and legislators.
Karunanidhi said AIADMK, were trying to stall the DMK’s winning
streak and we should not give room for it” he said to party men.
Karunanidhi asserted to DMK men that, “I have only one wish that
there should be more unity among you. If we ensure the unity among
ourselves, the AIADMK cannot win over us and nobody can defeat us,”
he added. Mr. Alagiri left the venue one hour before the before
the completion of the meeting.
