Two accidents have taken place in just two days inside the Chennai airport, in the operational area where aircrafts are handled. An Air India tractor and a crew shuttle van of Kingfisher Airlines collided in the apron area of domestic terminal on early Sunday morning.

The Kingfisher Airline's crew van was damaged in the accident that took place at 3.30 am and none was injured sources said. “No crew member was in the shuttle van that was being moved by the drivers near the parking bays”, an airport official said.

A private carrier's bus hit a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable inside the airport around 7 am on Saturday in yet another incident. In the last two years a couple of other accidents have occurred due to rash driving.

An official said, “Though periodic training is given to the staffs that are issued licenses to drive vehicles, some of them drive in a rash manner”.

“An inquiry had been ordered into the accidents and corrective steps would be taken. A series of measures are in place to deal with such instances. Suitable action would be taken against the drivers of the vehicles after the inquiry is completed. There are provisions to briefly suspend their driving permits and re-train them," said Airport director E. P. Hareendranathan.
