The City police have made elaborate arrangements to deal with the huge crowd of shoppers that is expected to pour into T. Nagar ahead of Diwali with chaos ruling roads leading to Usman Road and Pondy Bazaar during every festival season. A number of measures taken by the police will be implemented in T. Nagar from Wednesday onwards. N Ravi, additional commissioner of police (traffic) said, "We have placed restrictions on the entry of auto rickshaws in a number of areas. Similarly, goods vehicles will not be allowed into T. Nagar between 10 am and 10 pm". Separate parking for auto rickshaws have been planned at Burkit road, Dhandapani Street, Venkat Narayana Road, Bashyam Road and Coats Road. Ample parking space would be made available on Muthurangan Salai
(for 50 cars), G. N. Chetty Road (200 cars), around Somasundaram
play ground (100 cars), Thyagaraya Road -- western side (100 cars)
and eastern side (500 cars), Venkat Narayana Road (50 cars) and
Burkit Road northern side (100 cars). "Last month we allowed
paid parking at few schools in T. Nagar and we plan to continue
that," added Mr. N. Ravi. |
