Actor turned Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment D. Napoleon’s convoy was allegedly attacked by a group of men alleged to be AIADMK supporters while he was on his way to Tirunelveli from the Madurai airport. Napoleon’s vehicle was passing the Ring Road around 3 pm near the venue of AIAMK supremo Jayalalithaa's rally on the outskirts of the temple town when the incident took place.

Napoleon was going to Tirunelveli to meet his son when the incident took place said M.K. Mariappan, a spokesman for the minister. “A mob suddenly stopped the car and attacked the vehicle and throwed stones at it when we reached Chinnaudaipu" he said, adding that the windshields of the vehicle were badly damaged. Stones were also thrown at the convoy vehicles.

Napoleon was immediately shifted to an official vehicle and whisked away. The venue was swelling with AIADMK supporters with Jayalalithaa addressing a massive gathering in Madurai.

Mariappan said that the minister was not injured and has reached Tirunelveli, and he is safe.
