The DMK functionaries have ignored the public announcement made by chief minister M. Karunanidhi to check indiscriminate erection of hoardings and banners for political meetings and government functions.

The party cadres in Vellore district have erected hoardings and banners of different sizes to welcome deputy chief minister M.K. Stalin, likely to grace the marriage of Vellore corporation mayor P. Karthikeyan’s son on October 27.

In spite of the police and Vellore corporation attaining a clear consensus with all political parties a year ago to erect hoardings three days prior to the programme and remove them two days after the programme, the DMK cadres are not bothered to obey, lamented corporation officials.

Around 100 hoardings have been erected leaving very little space for road-users at major junctions such as Makkan, Palace Café and more than a kilometre on either side of Officers’ Line from north police station. These areas are flooded with huge hoardings carrying pictures of the CM M. Karunanidhi, Deputy CM M. K. Stalin, Law Minister Durai Murugan and the mayor.
