In the first step towards forging an alliance with the AIADMK, the DMDK moved closer to the AIADMK led front by agreeing to be a part of the agitation in support of Foxconn and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) workers. “An invitation was extended to DMDK founder Vijayakanth to join the agitation”, said CPM state secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Thursday, while addressing a demonstration jointly organized by Communist parties. He said that one of the top DMDK leaders Panruti Ramachandran told him over phone that Vijayakanth could not make it to the stir as the invitation reached him very late. But Ramakrishnan claimed that Panruti Ramachandran conveyed his party chief's support to the demonstration. The support to the striking workers leads to the belief that the
DMDK, which was singing the song that it would go all alone in the
elections, now agrees to be on the same page with the AIADMK, MDMK
and Left parties and this could be an attempt to explore possibilities
for a future alliance for the State elections. |
