This seems as if watching a movie
but it’s true. Two women were robbed at of 40 sovereigns of gold
jewellery at knifepoint while attending a marriage at the heart
of a city in Kilpauk on Thursday. The incident gets the distinction
of first such incident in Chennai.
Santhi, 48 and her mother, Valli, 77, had gone to attend the marriage
of their relative Murugan during the wee hours of Thursday, at Kaladipettai
in Tiruvottiyur.
A Valli was unwell she was given a room next to the bride. Shanthi
had gone out of the room to fetch water leaving the room open when
a lady asked for it. When Valli was returning back to her room fetching
water a miscreant got in the room and barged in and locked the door.
He threatened Valli with a knife to the room However, while she
was returning to Valli’s room with water when a miscreant got in
and locked the door. He then threatened Valli with a knife and tied
Santhi to a chair.
A police officer said that, ‘’the thief threatened the women and
got the jewellery from them following which they handed over 40
sovereigns of jewellery which belonged to the bride and Valli”.
Once he got the jewellery the thief got out of the room and locked
the door from outside and escaped from the spot. Relatives of the
women rushed to them and rescued them after hearing their cry.
A case has been registered at Kilpauk police station and a hunt
has been lodged by the police. |
