Chennai Airport officials arrested a passenger who was trying to get away with a huge amount of gold under his possession.

Customs officials at the Chennai airport seized more than 500 gold coins from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on a Chennai-bound flight. The captured gold coins nearly weigh 42 kgs. The value of the gold coins is reportedly close to Rs. 1 crore.

An official release from R. Periasami, Commissioner of Customs (Airport), stated that on a tip-off, officials of the Air Intelligence Unit at the Chennai airport intercepted the passenger, who is a French national of Indian origin.

The arrested passenger has been identified as Syed Farooq who hails from Karaikkal. The gold coins were seized when Syed was frisked by the officials. The authorities found the coins hidden under his hip pocket. Investigations on this case have been initiated.
