More than 200 law college students hit the roads of Chennai causing traffic jams in busy lanes of the city. They were staging a protest march in support of Ashok Kumar who was allegedly ill-treated by the police a few days back.

Ashok Kumar, a law student, was arrested by the police and was allegedly beaten up and then admitted to a hospital near Chengalpattu. Ashok was arrested after a complaint by people in a Corporation bus where he was seen misbehaving with the passengers and the bus conductor. After a brief enquiry at the police station, Ashok was admitted to the hospital after he reported that the police have beaten him up severely. This led to a major blockade in North Chennai by the law college students.

The issue was brought to light again by the law college students who staged a protest march against officials for ill-treating Ashok who is being treated in the hospital. The protesting students demanded more funds to be allocated for Ashok's treatment. They also demanded strict action against people who brought Ashok to his present condition.

The whole episode caused traffic jams in important places of the city.
