Contract Workers at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) called off their strike which was to be held on September 8, 2010 but declared that the tripartite meeting was a failure.

Around 13,000 contract workers of public sector NLC today called off their indefinite strike called on September 8, after the management requested more time to analyze their demands. This decision was taken at the tripartite meeting held at the labor commissioner's office in Pondicherry. The AITUC members, who are responsible for the strike, informed the press that no agreeable solution was taken and hence the meeting was a failure. Besides the AITUC office bearers, the meeting was attended by the NLC officers.

The Union had earlier decided to go on an indefinite strike from September 8 if their demands were not met. The demands of the Union include a salary revision and making the contract workers’ posts permanent. The next round of discussions will be held on September 16.
