Seven people died of poisoning after they drank toddy from a liquor shop in Kuttipuram in Mallapuram district.

Mystery deaths rocked the small town of Kuttipuram when nearly 7 people died of poisoning on Sunday and Monday. Seven people, mainly workers from Tamil Nadu, who allegedly drank toddy were found dead on road-sides or after they were admitted to hospitals.

Kerala police sources, who are investigating this case, inform that that the deceased drank toddy from shops in Perassannur, Kuttippuram, and Veeranchira. Two liquor shop owners have already been arrested in this case.

State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited Kuttippuram on Monday. "Murder charges would be framed against the toddy shop owners if the deaths are confirmed to be due to spurious liquor", he added.
