Tourists and locals in Paris were
in for an uneasy night when a bomb threat was called on the wonderful
Eiffel Tower.
People in and around the Eiffel Tower were asked to leave the area
when Police received a call from an anonymous person threatening
to blow up the magnificent tower. Around 2000 people were evacuated
and the Tower and surroundings were searched thoroughly. It eventually
turned out to be a hoax call. Activities retuned to normalcy just
an hour later.
The Eiffel Tower attracts around 7 million visitors every year.
Though, no one claimed responsibility for the threat, Police suspect
that Paris could be a threat for such attacks due to a Bill which
bans women wearing burqa-style veils in public.
The ban on burqa in Paris has drawn flak from several Islamic organizations.
Though the Bill has been passed, there is no immediate implementation
of the same. Government officials indicate that the ban on burqa
would be implemented from spring next year.
