Nearly 30 people are feared to
be dead when a commercial plane crashed in Venezuela on Monday,
September 13, 2010.
The plane was carrying nearly 51 passengers and crashed shortly
after take-off in eastern Venezuela. The government-owned carrier
went to flames just 10 minutes after it took off and crashed on
a government-owned steel foundry near Puerto Ordaz.
Officials report that there were 23 survivors but 2 of them died
due to severe injuries. Rescue workers were busy attending injured
victims and the survivors are being taken to nearby hospitals. An
official told that the plane had taken off from Margarita Island
which is a tourist destination.
The cause for the crash is still unknown. This is the second worst
plane crash in Venezuela in two years. The last crash was in 2008
when a private plane crash claimed the lives of all 46 passengers
aboard.
