CAN
INDIA REPEAT HISTORY AT THE CHAMPIONS
TROPHY?
|
|
| India is slated to
play Pakistan in its opening Champions Trophy
encounter tomorrow. Pakistan, with one win
already under its belt, is looking confident
while India is with a rather depleted side
which does not have Zaheer, Sehwag or Yuvraj.
But, there is one thing on India’s side.
Whenever India has met Pakistan in a big tournament,
luck and victory have always favored India.
This has been on for more than 20 years now
and in all these years, Pakistan has been
able to reverse the trend only once. So, will
history and the odds be on India’s side
on Saturday? We do not know. What we can do
is to look at all those occasions when India
and Pakistan have crossed swords at world
cups. Let’s relive those tense magic
moments. |

India
vs. Pakistan |

Venue: Melbourne
Cricket Ground
Date: 20th Feb.
1985
Before India and Pakistan met in
a World Cup, they came face to face
at the World Championship of Cricket
held in Australia in 1985, a tournament
that India eventually won. At Melbourne,
Pakistan batted first and posted
183, quite a competitive total in
a 50 over game in 1985. But, India,
charged by a special innings by
the then youth sensation Mohammad
Azharuddin romped home with six
wickets in hand.

Mohammad Azharuddin
